Learn About Choosing Flooring

In ancient times, floors weren’t anything close to what we know them to be today. They were just a patch of tamped down dirt that was sometimes strewn with unworked materials, such as hay and straw for people to walk on. While traditional dirt floors are still used in some parts of the world, there is a huge selection of flooring options available today. And, we understand that choosing the right flooring type for your home or other building can be confusing. That’s why we created this website. Although we’re not flooring specialists, we can provide you with some useful information about the different types of flooring. This information can guide you through the flooring selection process but also help you identify the right flooring contractor for your needs. Welcome aboard!

Top Carpet Installation Techniques for a Commercial Office

by Ella Lawrence

A carpet has become an integral part of office interior design. Not only does installing a carpet improve interior aesthetics, but it also increases physical safety from falls and protects the floor below. However, a carpet is only as good as its installation. Therefore, office managers must make careful considerations regarding the carpet installation technique to choose from.

This article highlights the most common carpet installation procedures.

Stretch-In Installation

Stretch-in carpet installation is arguably the most common technique in commercial spaces, primarily because it eliminates ripples and buckles. A carpet installer nails down thin strips of wood equipped with numerous angled nails around the edges of a floor. After that, an installer places padding on a floor before laying a carpet. Once the pad is in place, an installer stretches and tucks the edges of the rug into each angled nail. This approach ensures a carpet retains its tautness, thereby avoiding ripples and potential falls. Additionally, stretch-in carpets are easy to remove because all you have to do is un-tuck the carpet from the angled nails.

Cut to Fit

As the name suggests, cut-to-fit is a carpet installation technique that is simple and straightforward. All an installer does is cut a carpet to size and make sure it fits snug inside an office space. Minimal effort and resources are required for cut-to-fit carpet installation. However, the procedure encourages the formation of ripples and buckles because the carpet sits loosely on top of a floor. A dense pad is necessary to minimize the ripples and buckles, consequently eliminating potential trips and falls. Cut-to-fit carpet installation is mostly preferred where a property owner does not allow elaborate carpet installation. It is also the best technique for floors that occasionally get wet since the carpet can be removed quickly.

Double Stick

Also referred to as "double glue down technique," double stick installation involves the application of an adhesive to keep a carpet in place. An installer applies an adhesive to a floor, places padding on top, and then applies another layer of glue to stick the carpet to the padding. Double stick carpet installation ensures a carpet stays in place at all times and does a better job at this than the stretch-in installation technique. However, it is more difficult and time-consuming to remove a double-glued carpet. This makes it the perfect carpet installation technique for a business that does not plan to move offices anytime soon.
